where the wild things go
as a person who has not grown up with any of maurice sendak’s books but has found them much later in life, i don’t have much to say except that i wish i had asked that question above
l’amour est aveugle
“The borders of what is possible expand when you’re not afraid of the light which can be turned on.”
the longest night
to my grandpa, the person who would always give up his life for a stranger. thank you for teaching me about the little gestures
zwaansteeg
is my favorite urban space in the whole wide utrecht. i wouldn’t even call it a street, although there are two doors, i believe, registered with this address. squashed between two buildings, it’s wide enough to fit exactly two people melting into each other at a breaths distance.
the above performance was part of the collective utrecht indie route, which includes 18 amazing local acts
pretty ugly
it’s pretty ugly indeed. you don’t want to go there
+ an insightful interview w/ dva about the creative process of putting together the lp
let the hype begin
after more than a decade of silence, bobby womack finally speaks up. and with what a voice! this guy could probably melt the glacieres on the south pole (only if they haven’t been melted yet, that is)
teaming up with damon albarn (the guy behind gorillaz’ plastic beach who has worked w/ womack on their track ‘stylo’ feat. mos def) and richard russell (the xl recordings macho who produced gil scott-heron’s i’m new here, the reason i started this verbal regurgitation a while ago) womack delivers beautifully-interwoven vocals on a weeping melody of piano snippets and chord plonks in the first track off his upcoming the bravest man in the universe. it’s a genuine statement of а request for forgiveness. from whom? i’ll have to find out when the whole album drops on xl recordings in june 2012.
meanwhile, read a short q&a with womack about the album and his future collaborations
coming up: jamie xx remixes bobby womack. jamie xx, if you’re reading this, please get on it
